STM

STM is another company I came across during Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona which had a low power solution suitable for emerging markets dealing with energy poverty. Their SuperPico system employs advanced digital radio technology developed in Norway combined with proven software-defined radio functionality, resulting in a low cost rural GSM solution with advanced picocell technology.  Satellite and/or terrestrial backhaul links are supported using the Internet Protocol (IP) with built-in support for IP routing. Local calls and calls between two BTS sites can be connected directly, with only call control and accounting passing back to a central switching location; all traffic is compressed. Thereby, backhaul traffic is greatly reduced. 3 TRIX sites is 85W and one site is 35W making a suitable candidate for renewable energy powered. For more information, check out http://www.stmi.com/
